Great Plains Autism Spectrum Disorders Treatment Program (GPAST) has a variety of opportunities to train and educate North Dakota individuals and groups on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Please complete the request form below. Once you have completed and submitted a form, the GPAST Training Coordinator will be in contact with you to plan and organize your organization's training needs.

Listed below are possible training event topics. These are listed in three specific areas of training: Information, Interventions, and Diagnostics/ Screening. There is a space for other, if your desired training topic is not listed. Please indicate which training(s) you're interested in.

Information

Overview of ASD/Red Flags/ Warning Signs
Describes the “red flags” or signs of autism. It will compare normal
      developmental milestones vs. atypical developmental milestones.

Criminal Justice situations and ASK/ Risk Management for Law Enforcement
Released to NDCPD by Dennis Debbaudt to further train professionals and
      parents in risk management in dealing with individuals with ASD. Dennis also discusses
      disaster preparedness as well as supplying an On Scene Autism Response Card.

Overview of National Standards Report for Evidence Based Practices for ASD
      Evidence based practice and research. It identifies interventions which are established,
      emerging and un-established.

Family Resources
Explains family support and will help you understand the perspective of parents who
      have a child with special needs, particularly autism.

Intervention

Behavioral Intervention Techniques
      Training on the benefits of Positive Behavior Supports including ABA (Applied Behavior
      Analysis).

ASD in the Workplace and Community
      Training on techniques needed to overcome challenges in social awareness and
      communication within the community and workplaces.

Transition Strategies for Future Planning
Provides information on transition strategies and how to help plan for adulthood for
      individuals with autism spectrum disorders.

Strategies for Developing Social Skills and Language Skills
   Information and techniques needed to help individuals with autism build social
      relationships and the use of social skills.

HFA Supports in the General Education Classrooms
Focuses on Asperger’s Syndrome/High Functioning Autism characteristics and how we
      can support these individuals in transition and employment.

How to Develop and Use Social Stories
This training will describe and help develop social stories to help children with autism.

How to Develop and Use Social Stories
This training describes the “red flags” or signs of autism. It will compare normal
      developmental milestones vs. atypical developmental milestones.

Structuring the Environment: Visual Schedules, Room Structure, Workstations
Visual Schedules, Room Structure, and Workstations- This training provides information
      on visual schedules, power cards etc. as well as structuring the environment and
      how these techniques help individuals with autism.

Power Card Strategy/ Comic Strip Conversations/ Video Self Modeling/ IPOD IPAD
This training provides information on the development and use of power cards, social
      stories and video self-modeling.

Strategies for Teaching
Provides input on educational strategies in helping individuals with autism,
      particularly reading and comprehension skills.

Diagnostic/Screening/Interdisciplinary:
These trainings are offered individually or as part of an interdisciplinary diagnostic team training.

Interdisciplinary Team Based Evaluations
This is used in the training for interdisciplinary team members. This includes speech and
      language, occupational therapy, medical, social work and technology in telehealth.

Screening Tools (M-CHAT,CAST)
Identifies the screening process and the assessment process. It discusses a variety of
      Level 1 screeners, Level 2 screeners as well as Gold Standard diagnostic instruments
      for accuracy in diagnosis of ASD.

Best Practice Assessment Tools
Focuses on the symptoms of ASD as well as assessment tools used in the evaluation of
      Autism.
