GRIT's Community Assessment Online

Will a Voucher System work for our organization?

Several types of agencies can operate voucher systems:

Type of Organization:
Example:
A state program
An advocacy group
A school or university
A registered business
A community hospital
A service organization
A religious organization
A veterans organization
A county social service agency
A rural center for independent living (CIL)
A high school special education program
A provider serving persons with developmental disabilities
A rural ambulance service
The Jaycees
The Knights of Columbus
A local Veterans of Foreign Wars organization

Rationale:
Before they will risk doing business with an agency, funding sources require organizations to have:
  • An established identity that can be reliably contacted AND
  • An organizational structure that can be audited AND
  • The ability to comply with contract requirements under state law
For this reason GRIT recommends that agencies be either a state or governmental entity or a 503c organization.
