Parents
at Home
Some
families decide to have one parent stay at home and provide child care
to the children. Benefits from this arrangement include:
-
The child receives consistent attention from
one primary caregiver.
-
The child is not exposed to the viruses found
in typical group settings.
-
The family is assured that the care and stimulation
they desire are provided.
Families
provide this type of care through any of the following arrangements:
-
One spouse works outside of the home and provides
income for the whole family.
-
One spouse works outside of the home and the
primary care giver provides child care in the home and manages an in-home
business (i.e. medical transcriptionist, child care provider for additional
children).
-
Both spouses work outside of the home on separate
shifts.
Families
who choose this type of arrangement need the following supports:
-
Careful planning to assure the family spends
quality time together.
-
Respite for the primary caregiver in the form
of time to run errands, take a break or escape constant demands of care
giving.
-
Informal play groups through arrangements
with neighborhood families or a local church to provide exposure to same
age peers as the child grows (i.e. MOPs
Group).
