Adopting a Child with Special Needs

If you decide that your family cannot provide a child with a disability the healthy, happy home that he or she deserves, you may wish to place the child for adoption.  Many families are eager to welcome a special needs child into their home, if you cannot raise the child.  No one else will love the child as you can, even if they are wealthier or more educated.  When your love is not enough, and you need to consider adoption for a special needs child in North Dakota, please contact:

Adults Adopting Special Kids (AASK) is a collaborative effort of The Village Family Service Center, Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota and the North Dakota Department of Human Services.  Turtle Mountain Child Welfare and Family Services is also affiliated.  For information call:

What Happens If A Family Decides to Give Up A Child Immediately?

The hospital social worker would visit with the family to be sure of their concerns, intentions and needs.  They would check to make sure that the family was aware of support that was available and did not have misinformation about raising a child who had a disability.  If the family decided not to keep the child, the social worker would contact the county social services to arrange for an emergency foster care placement for the infant/child.
