Service Clubs

Many North Dakota families have applied to service clubs to obtain funding for special needs. Some clubs assist individual families and other do not. Sometimes families may need to work with a provider that is supported by the club to obtain what they need.

North Dakota Association for the Disabled, Inc. - NDAD is a non-profit information and referral agency that is focused primarily on assisting people in the following areas:

  • Obtaining necessary medications
  • Buying expensive medical equipment
  • Travel expenses for out of area medical appointments
  • Obtaining accessible items, (i.e. ramps, wider doorways)
  • When contacted, NDAD may refer you to other agencies that they believe can best meet your needs. If you are referred to an agency and denied assistance, NDAD will work to provide you with assistance and/or funding based on the following criteria:
  • Physician Statement/medical necessity
  • Must meet income guidelines
  • May be based on taxable/non-taxable income
  • Number of family members
  • Dollar amount spent on medication per month
  • For more information, contact NDAD at 1-800-532-NDAD.

Lions Club  - Their focus is on diabetes, blindness and youth.  Eligibility for assistance requires that:

  • One member of the family must work
  • The family must not be covered by insurance
  • If glasses are needed, the person must not have had an eye exam in the last year
  • This program is designed to help those that do not fall into the Social Services net, the working poor and uninsured. This program is NOT for people who are already receiving assistance from other agencies.

Sertoma Club - They are focused on offering service to mankind, with a focus on youth and the elderly.  This club does NOT offer assistance to individual families.  They mainly focus on groups and organizations.  When a group/organization is appealing for funds, they usually visit with a member who will then present the issue to the club, or a written request is submitted.  Call 701-858-3250 to learn more.

Children’s Services Coordinating Committee -  The CSCC’s goal is to work to address the emotional, social, cultural, physical, developmental, and economic needs of children and families.  This encourages a community approach to family problems and solutions.  The CSCC does not provide direct services, but works with other agencies that do provide the needed services.  The CSCC covers 4 main areas:

  • Conduct regional needs assessments
  • Plan & coordinate intervention and work to improve services
  • Work with agencies to attain federal funds
  • Provide grants
  • The Kids Council/CSCC is a "grass roots" planning and decision-making organization that operates under a Board of Directors and committee structure that includes the active participation of parents and professionals from the seven counties.   To become involved, contact your local CSCC or visit the Kids Council web site.

    Churches

North Dakota Churches often provide support to individual families. If you are not affiliated with a local church, you may be able to find one through your city's home page. A listing of home pages for cities in North Dakota is maintained by the Bismarck/Mandan Cities' Page.
