The Perceptions Project
The Perceptions Project is devoted to improve the publics' perceptions of individuals with developmental disabilities and create sustainable practices and activities to do this. To accomplish this, the Perceptions Project will develop a Youth Education Campaign, a Workplace Education Campaign, and a Community Education and Awareness Campaign. This project falls on the heels of the Mythbuster Project, which used social marketing tools in persuing similar goals.
Speakers Bureau
A significant part of the community education and Awareness activity will be the expansion and promotion of the NDCPD Speakers' Bureau; A listing of speakers obtainable for presentations, including available topics and speakers' contact information. The Speakers Bureau is a great site to visit when looking for speakers and an ideal place for speakers to advertise. The site is available to the public at: www.ndcpd.org/famnet/speakers.shtml.
Mythbuster Project
The Mythbuster Project was a collaborative effort that began in October of 2006 between the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities at Minot State University, the North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD), and the Protection and Advocacy Project. The Mythbuster Project addressed the SCDD goal that “Individuals have access to other services available or offered in a community, including formal and informal community supports that affect their quality of life.” The project was specifically aimed at eliminating the misperceptions held by the general public about people with disabilities which create barriers to accessibility and full inclusion.
