Support Autism in North Dakota (SAND) grant was funded from 2012 -2014 and made strides towards the goals to assure that children and youth in North Dakota who have Autism Spectrum disorder receive early and continuous screening and diagnosis, coordinated care, family support and an infrastructure that supports a comprehensive system of care for their future.


The SAND staff crisscrossed the state of North Dakota and trained professionals in 43 of the 53 counties.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We trained 231 childcare and preschool professionals throughout of the state of North Dakota (ND) to recognize the early signs of autism spectrum disorders (ASD).  We instructed 289 medical professionals on how to effectively utilize and interpret initial screening tools; the importance of ASD screening; methods on incorporating screening into existing practices; follow up options; and the referral process.
