During the week of September 24th through October 4th several Bottineau, North Dakota residents received telephone calls from a person claiming to be a Medicare representative.

The fake representative stated the Medicare recipients were overcharged and would be reimbursed $396.  The recipients were then asked for their bank account numbers for a direct deposit of the reimbursement.  The imposter also offered “new” Medicare dental and eye care benefits.

Medicare representatives will never ask for a bank account number.  Do not give out your bank account numbers, your Medicare number or your Social Security number.

If you receive a suspicious call or letter, please report it to your local police and to the North Dakota Senior Medicare Patrol.  Scams like this do occur, even in North Dakota, but you can help to stop others from being targeted.
